The deadline for commenting on the proposed content of regulations to the Green Energy Act closed on July 24th. On your behalf, CORE made submissions. Those submissions, as well as the comments of the Niagara Escarpment Commission, were adopted by the Township of Mulmur as part of what they wanted the Government to consider. Please see the attached PDF, including all three submissions. We thank the Township for its continuing action to address concerns and impacts on Mulmur.

At the AGM and info meeting of July 4th, CORE provided information on a number of matters.

First, the recent announcement by the government that the regulations to the Green Energy Act will provide for a minimum 550 m setback, is being met by strong pushback from the wind industry. Cabinet and provincial officials are being subjected a strong lobby from the wind industry to reduce the proposed 550m setback for turbines from residences (other than those on land leased for the purpose of a turbine). The Province set the 550 m setback to protect health and avoid complaints about noise impact from turbines-- they cannot now set it aside, and put health at risk. There are many places in the Province where the setback can be met, and turbines properly located. PLEASE-- IMMEDIATELY WRITE KEY MINISTERS WITH THE MESSAGE THAT THE SETBACK CANNOT BE REDUCED. You will find the necessary addresses and key messages at pages 9-12 in the attached PowerPoint presentation.

Secondly, the Green Energy Act opens the Niagara Escarpment up for turbines, subject to receiving a permit from the Escarpment Commission-- in the light of Government statements that green energy is "essential". The Cabint needs to know that the Escarpment needs better protection than that. LET KEY MINISTERS KNOW THAT THE ESCARPMENT SHOULD BE PROTECTED FROM TURBINE INSTALLATIONS, including for a distance of 1k from its boundary, as the NEC policy had called for, before being swept away by this legislation.

Next, the Green Energy Act is intended to be implemented through various regulations. The Province is asking for comments on proposed content for regulations, and comments must be submitted to the Government no later than July 24. WE NEED YOU TO FILE A WRITTEN SUBMISSION TO THE MOE AND MNR -- See pages 13-16 of the attached powerpoint for the necessary information on addresses, and key messages.

We are also posting a copy of the very detailed submission made by CORE, for your information and review-- but don't let this be the only submission they receive -- numbers matter, and your letter is important.
